It was a rather busy and unique week in writing class.
Looking back at my WP2 rough draft, I am so thankful for peer reviews! The best
criticism I received was that I needed to add more of my voice to my essay. I
was listing too many facts and details without giving much of an analysis. As I
edited my paper, I tore about the entire essay and made sure that what I was writing
was coming from the heart. I also added in some quotes from the course reader
which I felt really tied my piece together. Originally I had struggled with
answering all of the questions within the prompt, but I found a way to focus on
the most important elements. Overall, this was my strongest writing piece that I
have written for the class. I feel that I have a really strong understanding of the author’s moves and rhetorical elements within writing pieces. I am also more
aware of what my own voice as a writer is, which is great because I am able to
try other author’s moves with more confidence now.
I am a bit more
confused and nervous to start on the next writing assignment though. The prompt
still leaves me with some questions. I have considered taking a news report on
the Country Music Awards show and turning it into the two new genres. I just
have no idea how to create new genres, so this will definitely be a challenge for
me.
