This week we explored author’s moves more in depth and how
they differ depending on the writing’s genre. In preparing for our WP2, I began
to explore the topic of college clubs. I questioned whether being involved in
some sort of club on campus-such as Best Friends Forever Club, Excursion Club, or
even Bad Movie Club- allows college students to adjust to college better. I was
thinking of exploring this topic from a psychological perspective by exploring
the overall health of students in clubs versus not in clubs and how this
correlates. We can also explore this topic from a communication’s perspective
to explore student’s social skills when they are in a club versus not in a
club. This activity really opened my eyes to the different conventions that
surround different disciplines. Being able to actually explore these different
discipline’s writing pieces has allowed me to consider the important factors
that go into writing. Obviously if I am writing a scholarly article focused on
my major I will write for the main purpose of informing my audience and I will
want to include a lot of facts and evidence to give myself credibility. Let’s
say that I am writing about the same topic but this time it is for my blog, I
will have more room to allow my true writing style to come out. I have the
ability to write more informally since my audience now consists of college students
and one of my goals now becomes to keep my audience entertained.
